At Chesapeake Veterinary Hospital (CVH), we believe that a healthy family pet is a joy and a treasure. Our job is to assist and teach each owner preventative care to keep their pets happy and healthy. Rapid and early treatment of disease and injury are areas where we can be of help as your primary veterinary hospital.

About Us
CVH is a full service veterinary facility. We offer comprehensive preventative "well patient" care, as well as complete medical, surgical (including laser surgery), digital X-ray, dental, reproductive, laboratory and geriatric services.

  • Dr. Marian Shaw, Practice Owner

    Dr. Marian Shaw, Practice Owner

    Dr. Marian Shaw is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary medicine, at Virginia Tech. Her undergraduate studies were at Tufts University where she studied animal behavior.  Dr. Shaw's main interests in veterinary medicine are laser surgery, sports medicine, pet birds and exotic pets. She does volunteer work in wildlife medicine. She has worked with veterinarians at The National Zoo and Sea World.

    Dr. Shaw lives on a farm with her husband Doug Dobbin, her sons Travis and Nate, her dogs, horses and llamas.  Her hobbies include being a 4H leader, teaching the Llama Project and dog agility. She raises, trains and shows Labrador Retrievers and Norfolk Terriers.

  • Dr. Jenifer Russell, Practice Owner

    Dr. Jenifer Russell, Practice Owner

    Dr. Jenifer Russell is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. Prior to that she graduated from Lynchburg College with a BS degree in Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Russell still enjoys studying field biology and especially ornithology.

    Dr. Russell enjoys exploring Queen Anne's County and the surrounding Delmarva region birding and hiking. She also enjoys traveling, fishing, boating, biking and spending time with her family and friends, especially outdoors.

    Dr. Russell and Dr. Shaw have owned CVH since 1993. Besides working as veterinarians, they oversee the management of the practice and constantly work at keeping our vision up to date.

  • Dr. Patricia Ware

    Dr. Patricia Ware

    Dr. Patricia Ware graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine after completing clinical rotations at Oklahoma State School of Veterinary Medicine, Guelph University School of Veterinary Medicine and a post graduate externship at an equine specialty practice near Pittsburg. Her undergraduate education earned her a BS degree in Biology from Dickinson College.

    Dr. Ware has practiced companion, farm and exotic animal medicine in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Delaware and Maryland. Her special interests include dermatology, behavior and endocrinology.

     Dr. Ware lives with her husband and two daughters. In her free time she enjoys playing and watching sports with her family. She also enjoys riding her horses and running her dogs. Dr. Ware also shares her home with a cat, a parrot and occasionally numerous sponsored midshipmen.

  • Stephanie, Veterinary Technician

    Stephanie, Veterinary Technician

    Stephanie has been a veterinary technician for over 20 years. She has special interests in anesthesia and reproduction. Stephanie currently manages the surgery schedule and estimates at CVH.

    Stephanie has bred and shown dogs extensively. She enjoys spending time with her many dogs and horses Bernie and Kody,  gardening and watching her yard birds and pond fish.
  • Kim, Veterinary Technician

    Kim, Veterinary Technician

    Kim has worked as a veterinary technician for over 12 years. Prior to that she worked in the human health field. Kim has special interests in surgery and dentistry. She currently manages the dental program at CVH, as well as the website.

    Kim has two sons William and Nicholas. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her family and friends.
  • Maureen, Veterinary Technician

    Maureen, Veterinary Technician

    Maureen has been a veterinary technician for 8 years. She attended Dallas Cedar Valley College from 2003 to 2007 where her studies included practical veterinary dentistry, pet first aid and CPR, general hospital pharmacy and pharmacology, examination procedures, radiology and ultrasound, surgical prep and assistance, animal nursing and laboratory procedures.

    Maureen is happily married with two beautiful children, and was blessed with her first granddaughter in 2008. She enjoys spending her free time with her family.

    Maureen finds her career to be both rewarding and challenging. Everyday is a new learning experience.
  • Anne Marie, Client Care Specialist

    Anne Marie, Client Care Specialist

    Anne Marie has been employed at CVH as a client care specialist for more than 14 years. Always greeting our clients with a cheerful smile.

    A Kent Island native, Anne Marie enjoys spending time with her animals which include dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, and miniature horses. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her 3 children, the rest of her large family and especially her 3 year old granddaughter Riley.

    Donna, Client Care Specialist

    Donna has been employed at CVH since 1993 as a veterinary assistant and now primarily as a client care specialist. She enjoys meeting and greeting clients and their pets.

    Donna lives on Kent Island with her husband, 2 children, 2 dogs and 2 cats. When she's not working she enjoys spending time at home reading and watching movies.

    Marion, Veterinary Assistant

    Marion has been a veterinary assistant at CVH for over 7 years. Her specialty is laboratory work.

    Marion enjoys the company of her 4 cats and Golden Retriever George. She is an avid gardener and enjoys reading historical fiction novels and working on arts and crafts. Marion loves taking care of her grandson Mason.

    Erin, Veterinary Assistant

    Erin has been employed as a veterinary assistant at CVH since May 2010. She is currently attending Chesapeake Community College where she is pursuing a degree in nursing. Erin shares her home with her horses, Westies, chinchilla and birds.

    In her free time, Erin enjoys horseback riding and hanging out with her friends.

    Sarah, Veterinary Assistant

    Sarah has been employed as an assistant at CVH since June 2010. She is currently attending Kent Island High. Sarah plans on attending college when she graduates, pursuing a degree in biology.

    In her free time, Sarah enjoys ballet and hanging out with her friends.

    Jen has been employed at CVH since Oct. 2010. She has an associates degree from AACC, and is working on her bachelors degree in African History at University of MD.

    Jen has two dogs, a cat and a fish named Lebron. In her spare time Jen enjoys attending sporting events and going to concerts. She is a die hard Celtics and Ravens fan.
  • Adrienne, Veterinary Assistant

    Adrienne, Veterinary Assistant

    Adrienne has been employed as a veterinary assistant at CVH since June 2011 after graduating in May, where she completed her Bachelors of Science degree emphasizing in animal science from Virginia Tech. Adrienne hopes to get accepted into veterinary school and pursue a career as a veterinarian. She owns an AKC Hairless Chinese Crested dog, a Persian calico cat, and an Appaloosa Sport Horse. In her free time, she enjoys showing her horse, hanging out with friends, and managing Island View Farm with her sister.

    After 4 years of caring for your pets, Joey has decided to further his education. Joey will be attending Towson this fall. He will be greatly missed, but we look forward to him coming back during breaks and giving us a hand. We all wish you the best of luck Joey.
